Butterflies & bowties styled shoot at Rustic Grace Estate in Van Alstyne, Texas by Dallas Wedding Photographer Laura Miller.
This is a styled shoot I did a few weeks ago with an amazing team of wedding vendors. The theme was butterflies and bow ties, and after weeks of pinning colors and idea sharing with each other, this is what we came up with! Dallas wedding planner Kristine Baker with Urban Magnolia Events reached out to me because I have worked with her as a Dallas wedding photographer at several weddings! This shoot was at the amazing red barn at the Rustic Grace Estate, which is run by Katrina Johnson. Let me tell you, Katrina is a DOLL. She was so accommodating to anything we needed, it was clear that she puts her heart into weddings out there and it is not just another rustic wedding venue. This is a place where memories will be made and families will begin their journeys. It’s like going out to a family farm, and when you get there, no matter who you are, you are instantly at home. The longhorns are pretty stinking cool, too! If any of you Rustic Grace Estate brides need a Dallas wedding photographer, give me a call! I’d LOVE to shoot at Rustic Grace again!
Joining us was Emily of Petals Couture, who is a be a bride-to-be, herself! Her gorgeous, bright, luxe florals were absolutely delightful and gave our shoot an amazing punch! Jay at Ducky Bob’s brought the rentals and even had the idea to include bottle openers for the sodas! I didn’t even think of that! All stationary was courtesy of the ever-so-charming Annie at 5 by 7 Designs, and she really brought it with perfect, fresh ideas! I must say, I am a little obsessed with the butterfly stamps that she was able to source to match the theme, and a bow tie for an invite belly band? SUCH a cool idea! Our chic, lavender, geometric table linen, came from La Tavola Fine Linens, and it truly brings things up a notch! The beautiful cake is from the super sweet Sarah of Sweet Art Bakery. I highly recommend stopping by her shop if you’re ever in McKinney! It will be the most delicious stop you’ve had all day, and as a Dallas wedding photographer, I’ve had my share of wedding cake, so I know what I’m talking about. haha
I’d also like to extend a special thanks to Melissa and Nick for being our wonderful bride and groom for the shoot. Melissa also happens to be a Dallas wedding photographer friend of mine! She wore a gorgeous dress from Blushing Bride Boutique in Frisco, and if you’re wondering who brought the glam for her hair and make up, that would be Sydney at Finishing Touch Salon. After working with her on this shoot, I immediately started asking her about her doing my hair! You might also notice that Melissa’s lashes have butterflies on them. We got those from Paperself, the same company that did the paper lashes for the HUNGER GAMES!! So basically Melissa was getting her Katniss on while wearing these. SO FLIPPING COOL!
For this, I wanted to show a different approach to a wedding at a rustic venue. Rustic doesn’t have to mean soft colors and burlap, so we put a modern twist on a rustic venue by using bright, citrus colors, modern patterns, and I brought in a little bit of my own lighting to give things a little more of an edge! Part of being a Dallas wedding photographer is knowing how to handle any lighting situation, and I wanted to show that I could do both natural and off camera lighting! After discussing and planning this shoot with our goal of bringing some modern into the rustic, I love how things turned out!
What do you think? Did we meet our goal? What’s your favorite detail from this shoot?
BONUS: If my last post’s news of getting published wasn’t enough, THIS shoot has also been picked up for publication by Love and Lavender! Check out that post here!! HECK YES!
